My Time at ATW…
Volunteering at the Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW) has been an invaluable learning experience for me. I’ve had the pleasure of working with other young, like-minded volunteers and staff-members. As well as working with the founder himself Thurman E. Scott.
At ATW, I started out logging the accumulated footage. After proving my competence there, I began working on editing projects, starting out by editing Intro Videos for new volunteers and staff members.
I soon began to help ATW with videos for their grant applications which led to creations like the one to the left.
Lastly, at the culmination of my time with ATW, I worked as a videographer for their Builders of the New World (BNW) live events. These events provide the founder, Thurman Scott, the opportunity with unhoused children from across the NY area. The children are provided with a meal, Thurman gives a lecture, and the kids are then tasked with completing an activity. I, as videographer, was tasked with documenting this in documentary style format. This was also a full-circle moment for me as I had begun my work at ATW logging the footage from previous live events and had ended it by filming it myself. Overall, the live events are a beautiful coming together of the community and has truly inspired me as a creator myself.
